About You
You're a hands-on architect who loves owning the big picture while staying grounded in the details. You thrive in fast-paced e-commerce environments, hold your own across engineering, product, data and ops teams, and you know that great architecture is only great if it actually ships.
You understand that in a platform where deals last 24 hours, performance and reliability aren't nice-to-haves – they're the product. If you've worked in environments with complex third-party integrations you'll feel right at home here.
Responsibilities
Architecture Ownership
Own the end-to-end architecture of the OneDayOnly platform – from customer-facing web and mobile experiences to backend services, data pipelines and operational tooling.
Define and drive architectural standards, patterns and best practices across all engineering teams.
Lead architectural reviews and provide technical governance across new initiatives and major changes to existing systems.
Identify and proactively address technical debt, single points of failure and scalability constraints before they become production problems.
Cross-Team Collaboration
Work closely with product, engineering, data, DevOps and commercial operations teams to translate business requirements into sound technical designs.
Act as the connective tissue between teams – ensuring that the work of frontend, backend, mobile and data engineers fits together coherently.
Be a trusted advisor to non-technical stakeholders, translating complex architectural decisions into clear business impact.
Integrations & Third-Party Systems
Design and govern integration architecture across the OneDayOnly ecosystem, including payment gateways, courier and logistics partners, warehouse management systems, and supplier/vendor feeds.
Ensure integrations are robust, observable, fault-tolerant and built for the realities of high-volume flash-sale traffic spikes.
Evaluate and onboard third-party platforms and APIs in a way that maintains system integrity and minimises coupling.
Cloud & Infrastructure
Design and oversee cloud infrastructure across Azure and Google Cloud Platform, optimising for performance, reliability and cost-efficiency.
Champion DevOps best practices including CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, containerisation and observability.
Leadership & Standards
Create clear, actionable technical documentation, architecture diagrams and architectural decision records (ADRs).
Mentor engineers and technical leads across teams, raising the overall engineering bar.
Evaluate and recommend new tools, frameworks and technologies that align with business goals and the existing platform direction.
Experience and Qualifications
5+ years of experience in a solutions architect, principal engineer or equivalent technical leadership role.
Relevant cloud certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect) are advantageous.
A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven experience designing and delivering production systems on Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.
Strong grasp of distributed systems, API design, event-driven architecture and microservices patterns.
Hands-on experience with complex third-party integration landscapes – ideally including payment gateways, logistics/courier APIs, or warehouse/fulfilment systems.
Solid DevOps fundamentals: CI/CD, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes), infrastructure-as-code.
Familiarity with PHP-based backends and modern JavaScript frameworks (React, Next.js, React Native/Expo) – enough to review code, guide teams and make informed architectural decisions.
Experience in e-commerce, marketplace or high-volume transactional platforms is a significant advantage.
Excellent communication skills: able to write clearly, run productive technical discussions, and present confidently to non-technical stakeholders.
Values
Challenge Accepted: We actively seek ownership, embrace complexity, and hold ourselves accountable for delivering high-quality, reliable code.
Solve Smart: We find the simplest, most effective path to a solution. We use data to inform our decisions, challenge assumptions, and build for the long-term.
Character Counts: We act with integrity in all that we do. We communicate with transparency, give and receive feedback constructively, and take accountability for our mistakes and our successes.
Customer Obsessed: We build with empathy for our users. We strive to understand their needs and challenges, making them the central focus of every feature we ship and every line of code we write.
Seriously Unserious: We take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We bring energy and humor to our collaborations, celebrate our successes together, and support each other through challenges.
